October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month β and at The Miracle Wellness Center, we believe awareness can also mean becoming more curious about the everyday factors that may influence our health.
We talk often about nutrition, hormones, sleep, stress, movement, and metabolic health. But what about the products we put on our bodies every single day? Makeup. Moisturizer. Shampoo. Sunscreen. Hair products. Fragrance. These are not occasional exposures. For most women, they are daily rituals β repeated hundreds of times over a lifetime. And that repetition is exactly why they deserve a closer look.

What the Research Is Beginning to Ask
Research continues to explore how certain chemicals found in some personal-care products β including parabens and phthalates β may interact with our hormone systems. Personal-care product use has been associated with measurable levels of these compounds in the body. These are called endocrine-disrupting chemicals, and they are increasingly part of the conversation in Functional and Integrative Medicine because of the way they may mimic, block, or interfere with natural hormone signaling.
That doesn’t mean we need to live in fear of everything in our bathroom cabinet. It means we have an opportunity to become more informed and more intentional consumers. There is an important difference between fear and awareness β and at The Miracle Wellness Center, we always choose awareness.
The Whole-Person Lens
Our Functional and Integrative Medicine approach encourages us to look at the whole picture β including nutrition, lifestyle, our environment, and the exposures we encounter repeatedly over time. The products we apply to our skin are absorbed. The fragrances we wear are inhaled. The chemicals used to preserve our shampoos and lotions enter the body through our largest organ. Over days, months, and years, those exposures accumulate in ways that standard medicine rarely accounts for.
And there is an interesting question emerging from the research: what happens when we change those exposures? Research has begun examining what may occur when women reduce their contact with certain chemicals commonly found in personal-care products. That is a conversation worth having β and it is one we welcome in our practice.
Sometimes supporting our health begins with something as simple as asking better questions. Not from a place of fear β from a place of awareness, education, and empowerment. What you put on your body every day matters. And you deserve to know why.

Where to Start
Becoming a more intentional consumer doesn’t require replacing everything in your bathroom overnight. It begins with curiosity. Start reading ingredient labels on the products you use most frequently. Look up unfamiliar ingredients. Consider exploring databases that rate personal-care products for chemical safety β such as the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database. When a product you love reaches the end of its life, consider replacing it with a cleaner alternative.
Small, consistent shifts in what you apply to your body every day can become meaningful over time β just as small, consistent nutritional changes accumulate into lasting metabolic improvements. The body notices what we repeatedly give it. That applies to food. It applies to stress. And it applies to what we put on our skin.
Beyond the Pink Ribbon
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we encourage you to look beyond the pink ribbon and become genuinely curious about the products you use every day. Not from a place of fear. From a place of awareness, education, and empowerment β because sometimes supporting your health begins with something as simple as asking better questions.
Your health is shaped by far more than what happens in a clinical setting. It is shaped by daily choices β what you eat, how you sleep, how you move, how you manage stress, and yes, what you put on your body. All of it matters. And all of it deserves your attention.

A Note of Intention
This space is meant to educate, not to diagnose. The words shared here are offered as learning, reflection, and curiosityβnever as a substitute for personalized medical care. Every body carries its own story, its own history, its own rhythm. What applies to one may not apply to another.
If something here resonates with you, let it be an invitationβto ask questions, to seek guidance, to explore next steps with a qualified healthcare professional who knows you. Healing is not one-size-fits-all, and true care is always personal.
